Things worth doing right now
A few of these genuinely prevent a repair turning into a replacement.
Switch to fan-only
If there is ice on the coil or the lines, fan-only thaws it. Running a frozen system can destroy the compressor.
Check the breaker
Both the indoor and outdoor disconnect. A tripped breaker is free to fix. If it trips again immediately, leave it off and tell us.
Look at the filter
A blocked filter causes more Orlando callouts than anything else. If light will not pass through it, that may be your whole problem.
Kill the power if it smells
Any burning smell, arcing, or water pouring from the air handler: shut it off at the breaker first, then call. That is a safety issue.
