The incentive problem in this industry
Here is something the HVAC trade does not say out loud. A pure service company makes its margin on installation. When your compressor fails, the profitable recommendation is a new system — not because anyone is lying to you, but because that is the direction the business model leans.
We sell equipment as a separate line of business. Complete systems, air handlers, and tested used compressors, to homeowners and to other contractors. That means when we tell you a $312 used compressor will get another five years out of your system, we are not talking ourselves out of a sale — we are just making it a different one.
It also means we are the only company in Orlando that will sell you a unit without forcing our labour onto the invoice. If you are a licensed contractor, or a property manager with your own crew, you can just buy the equipment.
